Poker coverage in the UK is "minimal"

2008-08-05 15:41:03

Poker is not given anywhere near as much coverage in the UK as it is in the US, an expert has said.

InsidePoker Magazine's editor Alan Bowden said that British poker enthusiasts receive "minimal" coverage of the game from the mainstream press.

This is compared "to the US where it's on prime time TV on NBC - and ESPN shows hours of coverage for weeks on end when they do the World Series".

The majority of the biggest poker tournaments on the planet take place in the US, including most legs of the World Poker Tour (WPT).

Indeed, despite losing its crown as the richest gambling destination on the planet to Macau a few year's ago, Las Vegas is still very much the capital of the poker universe, hosting the World Series of Poker main event and the WPT Championship.

Many of the sport's biggest names live in the Nevada casino mecca, including Doyle Brunson, Chau Giang and Howard Lederer.
